William A. Hawkins

William A. Hawkins III was elected to our Board of Directors in December 2015. He is the Chairman of our Compensation Committee. Mr. Hawkins serves as a Senior Advisor to EW Healthcare Partners. From 2008 to 2011, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, Inc., a global leader in medical technology. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, Inc. from 2007 – 2008.  President and Chief Operating Officer of Medtronic, Inc. from 2004 to 2007, and Senior Vice President and President, Vascular of Medtronic, Inc. from 2001 to 2004. After Medtronic Mr. Hawkins became a senior advisor to TPG and from there became the CEO of Immucor. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Immucor from October 2011 to July 2015. Prior to Medtronic, from 1998 to 2001 Mr. Hawkins served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Novoste Corporation (NOVST), a medical equipment company. Prior to that, Mr. Hawkins served in a variety of senior roles at American Home Products, a consumer products company, Johnson & Johnson, a healthcare company, Guidant Corporation, a medical products company, and Eli Lilly and Company, a global pharmaceutical company.  Mr. Hawkins also serves as Chairman of Bioventus, LLC, and as a director of Virtue Labs; Cereius, Baebies, Inc.; Cirtec; Biogen (BIIB) and Mimedx Group, Inc. (MDXG), Mr. Hawkins is Vice Chair of the Duke University Board of Trustees and is Chair of the Duke University Health System. Mr. Hawkins was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2016 and as fellow of AIMBE in 2011.  Mr. Hawkins was selected to serve as a member of our Board of Directors due to his leadership experience as a chief executive officer, knowledge of, and experience in, the healthcare industry, international experience and governance and public company board experience.
